How to Use Instagram to Grow Your Online Business

Last week I wrote about how you can use your Facebook business page to grow your online business. If you did not catch it, check it out here.
This week we are going to look at how to use Instagram to grow your online business. Once again, I’ll provide you with three tips that you can use to grow your online business using Instagram.  If you prefer to see each tip in action, check out my video here: 

Tip #1: Have a great bio and profile picture

When someone lands on your page, they should know immediately whether they are in the right place. Your bio should clearly explain who you are and what you do. You can use emojis to help draw attention to your content. Also, we know that Instagram is very stingy with links that lead away from the platform. So you want to make sure you take advantage of the link you are able to include in your bio. Make sure it leads someone to your offer, freebie, website, etc.

Just like with Facebook, you do want to make sure that you have a GREAT profile picture. Once again, when people land on your Instagram page, they can clearly see, hey, there’s a person behind that Instagram page. As I stated last week on my Facebook blog, I think you should have your picture vs. your logo, especially if you are the face behind your brand. People do business with people.

Tip #2: Have engaging content

Now we know Instagram is a visual platform. It goes without saying that you want to have a feed that is appealing to the eye. However, you also want to offer your customers more than a pretty picture. You want to offer them INCREDIBLE VALUE as well. The way to do this is through the content you provide. It should be engaging: tips, tricks, quotes, how-to videos, behind the scenes. With IG, you can do short IG Stories, and now you can go Live, and the video remains on the platform for 24 hours. Both of these tools are great ways for your ideal client to see your personality and to build your know/like/trust factor.


Tip #3: Hashtags, Hashtags, Hashtags

Instagram is the home of the hashtag! However, as a Business Strategist, I see so many people who do not utilize them at all or don’t utilize them effectively. On IG, hashtags are used to search for things. By using hashtags in your posts, you are more likely to be found by the person searching for them. Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags, and I strongly encourage you to use them each time you make a post. Why? For the reason I mentioned above…it increases your chances of being found in a search.

Another tip when it comes to your hashtags is you don’t want to have all of your hashtags be huge. When I say huge, that means when you actually click on a hashtag, it has like five million searches on there, because then your posts get lost. You definitely want to make sure that you’re not only using ones like “entrepreneur” and “businessowner”. You can use a couple of the big ones, but 98% of yours should fall under 500,000 results.
