Ready to Start Your Online Business? Part 2: Goal Setting

According to blogs by websites like rmhbangor.org online retail and other online businesses are amongst some of the most popular and successful companies there are today. This could be because millions of consumers are now online and like to engage with online stores before visiting a physical shop. This may be to check out pricing or what products are on offer. It’s also far more convenient for consumers as well. So, as long as a business has one of the xfinity internet plans, or something alike, to keep their website updated, they can reach a wide audience and likely be more successful. However, there are often times when starting a business, fear gets in the way. When these thoughts creep into your mind, refer back to the strategies from last week-visualization, affirmations, and journaling. As you work on developing your success mindset, the 2nd practical step we are going to implement is goal setting. Setting goals is the cornerstone of a business becoming successful, you need to set them and reach them to keep continuous and progressive growth.

Using technology that can facilitate this will make it easier to run the business. If you have not heard of platform architecture then click here to learn about Platform Architecture and see how it can help with the running of your business from the get-go.

Step 2: Goal Setting.

At the beginning of each week, make it a habit of establishing 2-4 business goals. These goals should be written down in your journal. There is power in writing your goals down, because it then holds you accountable and allows you to track your progress toward reaching them. I truly believe in making SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) because they force me to be laser focused. I can set them weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. Below are just a few examples of SMART Goals:

  • I will apply for my business license by Friday, October 14.
  • I will finish my website by Friday, November 11.
  • I will write my exit strategy for my full-time job by Friday, November 11.

Halfway through your week, month, quarter, and/or year, do a reflection in your journal on your progress. At the end of your time, reflect on whether or not you reached the goal. If you did, celebrate (ice cream anyone J). If you did not reach your goal, reflect on what happened and what you can do differently. Then go out and celebrate (yes, you can still have the ice cream 😛 ).

For the next week, write down 2-4 business goals you want to accomplish. Make sure to track your progress, reflect at the end of the week, and celebrate!!! Let me know how things went.
